Has no one forgiven them yet?

According to the radio programme I heard this morning, the Japanese gov't has once again apoligized for all the suffering they caused in WWII. How long must they continue doing this? Has no one forgiven them yet? They've been pretty peaceful for 60 years now...
I think it's time to officially tell Japan that they're forgiven, that bygones are bygones, etc. It's getting embarassing...

I thik China is still miffed at the treatment the Rape of Nanking has received (amongst man many other greivances). Japan was not just a little naughty during that period. There are still women alive who were gang raped systematically by Japan. Frankly I don't think you ever get to stop apologizing for things like that.

I defintely have to agree with you Arquonzo. I believe that this is quite crazy, I mean just let them get on with doing whatever it is that they are going to do. I could understand if they were denying the fact that they were ever an aggressor, but they have been appologizing for going on 50 years, so its not like they have already made thier peace. As far as I can tell, all Japan is interested in doing kicking the domestic car industry to the curb.... maybe they should appologize for that... lol

As I said above I don't think they have made their peace quite yet. It is very easy for Americans to think so since they never occupied us, exported our women as whores, raped our daughters assembly line style, and then outlawed our native tongue and culture. Fairly shallow to think that the folks who were right next door would take it as lightly as we do.

How long it will take Japan to apologise depends entirely on Japan.

They COULD have apologised quickly. They preferred dragging it on. It's their choice.

Ultimately, I dont hear anyone 'demanding' appologies from Japan.  I think it is they who feel the need, not that others are demanding it.

Spoken like a true Korean Patriot!

I would agree with you, Greywar, if the same people were still running the show in Japan. The people participating (not to mention leading) in the horrid activities of the WWII era are now either dead or dottering.
Also, I don't think we're taking it (or took it) lightly. As you know, we demanded unconditional surrender, and still have troops stationed there.

Dr. Guy - We still hear China demand apoligies from time to time... I think there was a big broo-ha-ha over that in April when I was in Okinawa, if memory serves. All the same, I imagine the first part of your second sentence may be quite correct.

you may be right about China.  They demand so much, I quit listening to them long ago.

heh, has china apologized to the 40+ million of it's own people that they slaughtered getting their little political system started? mmmm, prolly not...

Japan HAS in the past had a problem with revisionism as far as their acts in previous conflicts. I think that gets highlighted every year when the annual "Let's Vilify the US for Hiroshima" thing gets underway. Enevitably when those charges are levelled people respond be recounting the awful human rights abuses that Japan was guilty off during WW2.

It's less commonly known that Japanese scientists did things on par with German experiments to "lesser" races on the Asian mainland. There are a lot of Japanese people who deny a lot of this stuff even happened, just as we have our own holocaust revisionist slugs.

No, I don't think they need to apologize over and over, but I can understand why some may feel the need to. I think it just feeds the people who feel that reparations and such are in order generations after wrongs have been committed, though.
